Update:

Rolling Stone has just released their album review of Random Access Memories:

"....Verses approach the banal; old-school-production treacle is laid on thick, but the creative soul is palpable. The jazz fusion gestures conjure ecstatic disco history as well as cheesy wine-bar soundtracks. And the absence of "modern" club beats is striking. This is not a record for the average Electric Daisy Carnival goer."

Daft Punk to unveil Random Access Memories in Wee Waa, Australia

Link.

Daft Punk is set to unveil their highly anticipated album 5 days ahead of official release in Wee Waa, Australia (population: 2,100). Why? According to the article from Pitchfork, the boys from France were "enticed" by the CSIRO Australia Telescope and satellite dishes located in the area.

To describe this move as highly unusual doesn't even do it justice as Daft Punk is emphasizing the random in Random Access Memories.

Watch this: Episode 2 of Daft Punk's 'The Collaborators' featuring Todd Edwards

Episode 2 of Daft Punk's 'The Collaborators' series features Todd Edwards, an American house and garage veteran producer from New Jersey. He worked with Daft Punk prior to random access memories by co-producing and performing the vocals for Daft Punk's 'Face to Face':

Few interesting points from the video:

  • Todd Edwards: "The concept [of the album] was they reversed gears and went back to a time that no one is focusing on, even in the way they record music."
  • "They brought the sound of something that has been lost for a long time"
  • "It's kinda ironic that two androids are bringing soul back to music"

Must-see video: Giorgio Moroder on working with Daft Punk

For those searching for any new Daft Punk news, then today is a good day as The Creators Project, an alliance between Intel and Vice, has launched a new series that interviews the collaborators behind Daft Punk's upcoming album Random Access Memories which will be released on May 21st. The first collaborators episode features Giorgio Moroder, the Grammy winning artist who gained fame during the disco era when he collaborated big names such as Donna Summer:

My favourite quote from the video that reveals a tiny bit of how Random Access Memories will sound, Moroder said "they [Daft Punk] had to do something which is different, still dance, still electronic, but give that human touch back".

I'm really looking forward to what Daft Punk has in store for us on May 21st.

Bonus news: Chilly Gonzales, one of the rumoured collaborators for Random Access Memories, had this to say on Twitter upon hearing the full album for the first time:
