Gareth Emery criticizes some fans for not allowing Trance to evolve
/Gareth Emery went on Twitter today to hash out his thoughts about the importance for genres to keep on evolving. Here are a few selected Tweets from the conversation Gareth Emery had with his followers earlier today:
When a music genre stops evolving, before long it'll stop existing too.

@trolleximuss No. People like you are gonna kill trance if you don't let it evolve and change.

Seriously… any electronic music style that achieved long term popularity did so BECAUSE it adapted, evolved and changed to fit the times.

For the opposite example, remember Hard House? It never changed, always stayed the same, and where is it now? Dead and buried.

@bochia15 not true. i play loads of artists who'd be considered trance.

I have loved this music since '98 and it's all cycles. Genres come and go. Music evolves. Don't be scared of change. Embrace it.

@ashleybittch I hope not, but a lot of its fans are certainly doing their best to ensure it does.

@bochia15 sad thing was back in 2005 or so, it was all one big genre. You guys were the ones that decided to divide it up.

I don't believe most Trance fans are afraid of change, instead some fans might be a little apprehensive about a move towards mixing Trance with whatever is popular at the moment on the Beatport Top 10. This kind of approach to producing music might give the impression that the producer is no longer making music for the art but for other reasons entirely.
