2 weeks ago Mark Sherry was in Montreal to lay down another top set at the famous Circus Afterhours club. In case you aren't familiar with Circus, the party begins at 2 am so if you ever go, expect for the sun to be up and people getting ready to eat lunch by the time you are ready to leave.

Circus Afterhours is celebrating its 10th year anniversary this weekend with two huge parties

The well-known Montreal club Circus Afterhours is celebrating its 10th anniversary this weekend with two massive parties on Friday and Saturday. Circus has been known to feature the best artists from within the trance scene and hosts parties that have a tendency to last well into the morning hours.

This Friday Circus has booked some monster talent with John O'Callaghan, Lange, and Sneijder for the main room. Lange is fresh from releasing his double album titled "We Are Lucky People" and will be showcasing the more melodic end of trance, while Subculture boss John O'Callaghan will almost certainly deliver a power packed trance set that promises to annihilate any dance floor. Just in case you're into techno, the X Room will offer plenty when Italy's Sasha Carassi gets behind the decks on Friday night.

On Saturday Circus Afterhours will play host to a Kraftek label night which will feature Oliver $, Jaceo & Vedic, and of course Pleasurekraft. This night will be extra special as Oliver $ and Pleasurekraft will be doing a back to back set from 6:30 am until 8:00 am:

This is the first time I've ever seen a Boiler Room type of live video feed from Circus Afterhours in Montreal and DJ Mag Canada was good enough to set it up so we can enjoy Jochen Miller's 2 hour set in HD quality. I'm not sure if this is the first of many recorded live sets in this manner or a one time deal, so I suggest that you enjoy it while you can and get a rare glimpse of the Montreal afterhours scene from the comfort of your own home:

Last year it was Circus Afterhours that carried the flag as DJ Mag's top Canadian club at #19 while the Guvernment came in at #27. Beta was ranked at #40 while Footwork and Stereo were unranked in 2012. Klub OMFG from Alberta was ranked #49 while Cobra London came in at #44 in 2012, but both clubs did not make the 2013 cut.

From what I noticed from this year vs. last year was that Circus Afterhours, the Montreal afterhours club, was engaged in an active campaign in 2012 to encourage fans to vote and as a result they were awarded the 19th spot in the 2012 rankings. This year, I have noticed virtually no campaigning of any kind from either Circus or Stereo, while Guvernment in Toronto was by far the most active campaigner in 2013, highlighted by this promotional video.​

The takeaway lesson is that if you want to rank high in the DJ Mag rankings in the future, you must invest a lot of time and effort and in return your fans will take the time to vote for you.
