August
Veld Music Festival
When: From Saturday, August 1st until Sunday, August 2nd.
Location: Downsview Park, 1-35 Carl Hall Road, Toronto, ON, M3K 2B6
Why you should go:
Entering into its 3rd year, the Veld Music Festival is quickly becoming one of Eastern Canada's largest destination music festivals. Known for booking the biggest names within electronic dance music, this year's Veld lineup is just as heavy with the likes of Deadmau5, Kaskade, Above & Beyond, and Hardwell as headliners. If you enjoy bass music, then Saturday's Bacardi's stage lineup with Borgore, Kill The Noise, AC Slater, Branchez, and Rain Man will keep you raging. But on Sunday that same stage goes into the deeper side of things with Grammy nominated Duke Dumont, who will be joined by Hot Since 82, Mark Knight, and more. Veld is a destination festival that will give you the biggest FOMO (fear of missing out).
Chasing Summer Music Festival
When: From Friday, August 7th until Saturday, August 8th.
Location: Fort Calgary, 750 9 Ave SE, Calgary, A.B.
Why you should go:
Chasing Summer isn't messing around this year as they booked some of the biggest names within the electronic dance music scene. Kaskade is arguably having his biggest year of his career thanks to his massive sets at Coachella, drawing the biggest crowd that festival has ever seen. DJs like Tiesto, Afrojack, and Dash Berlin are no strangers to the main stage and they will no doubt play fan favourite tracks. If you're looking for a festival that will be bringing the heavyweight names this summer in Alberta, then Chasing Summer is for you.
Squamish Valley Music Festival
When: From Friday, August 7th until Sunday, August 9th.
Location: Centennial Field, Loggers Sports Grounds and Hendrickson Fields, Squamish, B.C. (Approx. 45 minutes north from Vancouver, and 30 minutes south of Whistler. 42222 Loggers Lane, Squamish, B.C. V8B 0H3
Why you should go:
Set in the picturesque B.C. interior, the Squamish Valley Music Festival returns for another year with Kaskade, Porter Robinson, and Adventure Club leading the electronic music bookings. Blueprint is again in charge of the electronic stage and they brought a diverse lineup that includes selections from the deeper side of the spectrum with Tchami, Kaytranada, Slow Magic and Odesza while taking care to invite local B.C. favourites like Mat The Alien and The Funk Hunters. If you're into the deeper bass music with a slice of future house and would like to see Coachella hero Kaskade on the mainstage, then Squamish is the spot.
Shambhala Music Festival
When: From Friday, August 7th until Monday, August 10th.
Location: Salmo River Ranch, Salmo, B.C.
Why you should go:
Shambhala is an independent music festival with a sense of community and soul. It also has flair as many of the stages, particularly the Pagoda stage, is unique and beautiful. The lineup is mostly bass music based, but there is a huge diversity of artists invited that range from super famous like Skrillex to up and comers like Jauz and tons of local talent. This 4-day festival is a spot for musical discovery set in beautiful British Columbia interior that has earned international stature.
îleSoniq Music Festival
When: From Friday, August 14th until Saturday, August 15th.
Location: Parc Jean-Drapeau, 1 Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal, QC, H3C 1A9
Why you should go:
ÎleSoniq upped the ante in a big way for a festival entering only its second year by providing a blockbuster lineup that compares favourably side by side with any other festival in Canada this season. Booking Kaskade and the misfit South African rap duo Die Antwoord on the same stage and on the same night is exactly the kind of bookings that raise eyebrows and intrigues music lovers. Giving DJ Snake his own stage was another smart move as he filled it with interesting names like Tchami, Mercer, Shiba San, and Amine Edge & Dance. I Love Neon has been given their own dedicated stage again and their day 2 lineup with Odesza as a headliner is mouthwatering.
Garden of Eden Festival
When: From Friday, August 28th until Sunday, August 30th.
Location: 15 Trudeau Lane, Tweed, ON, K0K 3J0
Why you should go:
Set at the old location of the famous WEMF near Algonquin Park in Ontario, the Garden of Eden festival courts Toronto attendees to escape the urban life and enjoy nature and music for a weekend. Last year the lineup was composed of mostly local Toronto acts from all sort of genres and it is fair to expect the same this year.
