Overview: The Escapade Music Festival is returning to the nation's capital over the Canada Day weekend with an even bigger offering than the 2013 version. With 3 different stages and a new location, the organizers are looking to make a big splash.
Why you should go
This year's Escapade Music Festival promises to be even grander than ever before as organizers plan on making it as one of the defining Canadian festivals on the EDM calendar. Big room acts like Chuckie, Fedde Le Grand, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Dannic, MAKJ, and more are all confirmed for main stage appearances. On Saturday Ben Gold will host the #GOLDRUSH stage that will feature trance acts like Andrew Rayel, Orjan Nilsen, Ben Gold, Beat Service, and many more. On Sunday the "Temple of Bass" stage will come into full effect with Zeds Dead, Noisia, Zomboy ready to bring the heavy bass to Ottawa. Just like last year, underground house music will have a strong presence at Escapade with the legendary Danny Tenaglia headlining. He'll be joined by Lee Foss, Nicole Moudaber, and The Martinez Brothers, all solid acts that will bring the good vibes and Ibiza tan lines to the Nation's Capital.
Acts to watch (If you want to hear new music)
Eric Prydz: This Swedish artist represents true progressive house in all of its glory and has never been afraid to show it off on the very biggest stages all over the world. Marching to the beat of his own drum, Eric Prydz always manages to fill his live sets with tons of unreleased tracks, sometimes heard for the first time. Earlier this year he revealed that he'll be releasing a brand new album titled "10 years of Pryda" and the chances that you'll get to listen to a few tracks at Escapade is a good bet.
Andrew Rayel: With his full length album "Find Your Harmony" recently released, Andrew Rayel is set to enter the summer festival season in a big way. "Find Your Harmony" is composed almost entirely of Andrew Rayel originals, not bad for an 18 track LP. If you want to hear a lot of fresh trance tracks, then look out for Andrew Rayel's set on the #GOLDRUSH stage.
Noisia: The Dutch trio are returning to drum and bass in a big way as they are set to release their heavily anticipated "Purpose" EP (Due out June 30th). The "Purpose" EP will feature 8 brand new drum and bass tracks that will almost certainly feature heavily in their live set. The first release titled "Asteroids", a collaboration with Prolix has already gained significant buzz and was recently chosen as Friction's Fire selection on the BBC.
Grandtheft: This Toronto artist is one to see live as he's known to consistently bring special edits, originals, bootleg remixes, and unreleased tracks to his DJ sets. Grandtheft has been very busy in the studio getting ready for the summer festival season with recent collaborations with Diplo, Thugli, and Keys N Krates in the books, and more hinted on the way. "Keep It 100", the latest collab with Keys N Krates, could easily be one of the anthems of the summer. With a brand new collab remix with Diplo ready to drop, expect the unexpected as the likelihood that you'll be hearing fresh unreleased material from Grandtheft is high.
Zeds Dead: They always bring the bass music but this Toronto duo is in the midst of tweaking their style to allow more room to experiment with different genres and sounds. The slight shift started with the "Hot Sauce" EP and has continued with the upcoming "Somewhere Else" EP. With tracks such as "Lost You" and "Bustamove", Zeds Dead are extending their musical repertoire. That's the fun with Zeds Dead in 2014 as you're never quite sure what kind of curve balls they can come up with. But for those die hard Zeds Dead fans who just love to hear their heavy bass drops, just wait until "Hadouken" comes on and get your rage face on.
Fedde Le Grand: Planning to release his second studio album sometime this year, Fedde is a veteran DJ/Producer who has appeared in practically every big stage in the world. With 12 brand new tracks created for the album, get ready to hear plenty of fresh Fedde Le Grand music unleashed upon festival crowds this summer.
Project 46: Ryan and Thomas have a new album on the way that they have busily been testing on the road for the past several months. Both of these Canadian talents are known for their more melodic tracks, and have managed to break into the wider mainstream audience thanks in part to their Kaskade collaboration "Last Chance". They are playing as many as 6 unreleased tracks in their live gigs, so it will be a certainty that watching a Project 46 show this summer will mean that you'll be listening to brand new music. (Note: Project 46 will be playing at the extra "Escapade Does O'Canada" party on July 1st.)
