Why you should go

Digital Dreams is going big this year with an expected 80,000 attendees and an even larger venue footprint. Out of all the major music electronic dance music festivals Canada, Digital Dreams will be one of the most diverse as it features a good mix of mainstream and underground acts.

If you're looking to check out DJs that usually don't come around Toronto very often, there are a few booked at this year's lineup that you shouldn't miss. Deep Dish (Sharam & Dubfire) will be making a special reunion appearance, while the French duo Justice will be delivering a DJ set. Luciano is one of the mainstays at Ibiza, and even though he missed last year's festivities, he'll have plenty of opportunities this year to make it up to the Toronto crowd. I Am Legion, a new group formed last year with Noisia and Foreign Beggars will be making their Canadian debut at Digital Dreams.

Acts to watch (If you want to hear new music)

Tiesto: With a new album titled "A Town Called Paradise" due out on June 17th, this upcoming artist album has been a labour of love for Tiesto who has been busy working on it for the past 2 1/2 years. This will be a different kind of album as Tiesto described the first half of "A Town Called Paradise" to be more mellow with softer sounds, while the second half will consist of a more "indie-rock" feel. Expect to hear a lot of new tracks in his headlining set from the legendary Dutch artist.

Dash Berlin: Known for his emotional and energetic live sets, Dash Berlin knows how to get a festival moving. With a new album ready to be released titled "#WeAre", fans are going to be treated to a feel fest as they listen to the brand new tracks live.

Noisia: The Dutch trio are returning to drum and bass in a big way as they are set to release their heavily anticipated "Purpose" EP (Due out June 30th). The "Purpose" EP will feature 8 brand new drum and bass tracks that will almost certainly feature heavily in their live set. The first release titled "Asteroids", a collaboration with Prolix has already gained significant buzz and was recently chosen as Friction's Fire selection on the BBC.

Rene LaVice: This Canadian drum and bass talent has been literally tearing up the charts over in the U.K thanks to his break out hits "Where My ladies At", and his remix of Chris Lake's "Helium". With a second album in its final stages of planning, we could be hearing plenty of new unreleased material from this Toronto talent this summer. He promises that his Digital Dreams set will be a "Rene LaVice" showcase that'll be "fresh, exciting, and it's going to be big". To read my recent in-depth interview with Rene LaVice, click here

Super8 & Tab: This Finnish trance duo have been road testing unreleased tracks from their long awaited album, which will be due out hopefully sometime this year. Known for their melodic take on trance, Super8 & Tab always like to push the throttle further with their recent breakthrough collaboration with Jaytech called "Code Red". Signed with Anjunabeats, expect this duo to bring a lot of Group Therapy to the Toronto stage.

Andy Moor: With the recently released "Breaking The Silence Volume 3", Andy Moor's double mix CD, you know that this long time U.K artist is ready to deliver serious trance love to the festival stage. His new single "Fade To Light" has been featured in almost all of the major trance radio shows, and it's almost guaranteed that he'll play it at Digital Dreams. Andy Moor's style is a mix of the melodic and hard driving trance and it will be hard to resist.

Calyx & Teebee: Calyx (U.K) and Teebee (Norway) have been around since the mid 2000s and they are still rocking stages and spreading the drum and bass gospel to the masses. They have been invited to mix the next Fabriclive 76 mix CD that includes 34 tracks of some of the best that DnB has to offer. The mix isn't out until late July, but you better believe this duo will be taking the House of Boom stage with a definite point of view.

DC Breaks: This drum and bass duo from the U.K have arguably made the biggest record this summer with their latest EP released on RAM Records. "Lock In" which has already reached the #1 spot on the Beatport DnB chart is an absolute monster of a track. "Shakedown", their second release, goes equally hard. Expect these guys to deliver a peak time DnB set filled with DC Break originals including former hits like "Shaman" and "Gambino".

Fedde Le Grand: Planning to release his second studio album sometime this year, Fedde is a veteran DJ/Producer who has appeared in practically every big stage in the world. With 12 brand new tracks created for the album, get ready to hear plenty of fresh Fedde Le Grand music unleashed upon festival crowds this summer.

The Crystal Method: This legendary duo has been around since the 1990s and still manages to produce records even to this day. They have released their self-titled fifth studio album this year that contains 11 original tracks ready to be showcased. The Crystal Method played an important role in helping to build the electronic dance music scene to where it is today, and fans will get a chance to check out such a pioneering act this summer.

Eric Prydz: This Swedish artist represents true progressive house in all of its glory and has never been afraid to show it off on the very biggest stages all over the world. Marching to the beat of his own drum, Eric Prydz always manages to fill his live sets with tons of unreleased tracks, sometimes heard for the first time. Earlier this year he revealed that he'll be releasing a brand new album titled "10 years of Pryda" and the chances that you'll get to listen to a few tracks from this album is a good bet.
